Therapy starts with a conversation.

To begin, we will arrange a telephone consultation to discuss your current situation and to see if I can help. If you decide to take things further, we will then arrange an initial session. This will give us a chance to meet and decide if counselling feels right for you.

If we decide to work together, we will agree on a suitable time and day to meet each week. You might want to start and see how it goes, or you might prefer a certain number of sessions. Together we will shape the therapy by thinking about what is right for you.

There is no right or wrong way to ‘do’ therapy. Talking therapy offers a confidential space to think and feel, at a pace that is right for you. You might come with a specific problem in mind or perhaps you just sense that something is not quite right. Whatever your concern, we can think about the issue together.

I work using a mainly psychodynamic and trauma informed approach. An approach to therapy that means we will explore what lies beneath your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. We will think together about your current and past experiences, and how they may have shaped your beliefs and relationships today.

EMDR is a powerful and specialist form of psychotherapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialist form of psychotherapy that works with traumatic memories. It is a therapy used to help people recover from distressing events and the problems that they have caused.

EMDR is interactive. With the use of alternating eye movements, we will work together to reprocess and desensitise any distress. Guided side-to-side motions stimulate the brain, allowing “stuck” memories to settle and reducing the intensity.

EMDR can be used to treat a wide range of mental health problems, including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, phobias, grief and other difficulties.
